R.C. Thomas Lectures at Baptist Bible Seminary

This past week on Wednesday, I was the keynote speaker for BBSI's R.C. Thomas Bible Lectures. It was an honor and privilege to be invited by the board to share from God's Word and address the student body on the theme, "Empowered in His Name".  The first was a morning message from 2 Peter 1:1-4 on "The Incredible Power of Knowing Christ" and in the evening from 2 Peter 1:5-11 on "Thriving in Your Walk of Faith".

The R.C. Thomas Lectures are named after the missionary doctor and first president of ABWE. Dr. Thomas began a Bible institute in 1932 which eventually became our BBS&I.  His vision for solid biblical training for Filipino pastors, preachers, evangelists and teachers lives on today in the work we are doing here in Manila and beyond. Please continue to pray for these young Filipinos who are sacrificing much to be trained to serve in the Lord's church.

Below left: Alberto Reccion, who serves as seminary chaplain and chapel coordinator, introduces me...He is one of my graduates and will probably serve in a church in Toronto, Canada beginning next year,

Equipping Today Those Who Will Serve as Bible Interpreters Tomorrow

A fantastic day in Biblical Hermeneutics class as we work through a lecture on Discerning the Meaning of Meaning: The Importance of Determining the Authorial Intent of a Passage. In the Philippine Islands there are many who preach and teach in the churches from the standpoint of "what this passage means to me is..." with very little exegetical prep and understanding. My students show all the signs of being committed to the grammatical-historical-contextual-theological method of Bible interpretation.

Pray for them and me as I seek to instill in them a deeper understanding of the vital work they will do for Christ. Thanks for praying!

Teaching & Discipling Those Whose Parents Are Serving All Over the Philippine Islands

I took a bit of time at Faith Academy after dropping Kim off to take some pictures of her first period Algebra 2 class as they prayed together and then got started with their lessons. Her devotion to her students has gained her a good reputation as she often gives up lunch breaks and after school time to tutor. More and more students have expressed their enthusiasm for Kim's return as their math teacher.

Pray for her as she teaches Algebra 2 and Geometry but also helps them understand the connections of living as a disciple of Christ in all aspects of life. Thanks for praying!

And Now For Something Completely Different!

It's more fun in the Philippines, as the saying goes! That's rather true when it comes to finding funny signs here and there.  This is a new eatery near our home.  Kind of glad I was stuck in traffic so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat at this one! :)

Partners in a Generational Legacy

A premier verse related to passing on the baton of ministry to the next generation is 2 Timothy 2:2, "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."

When you join us in prayer ministry and regular financial partnership, you are investing in a movement of equipping a new generation for Christ and thereby partnering in a legacy for future ministry in the Philippines and beyond.

The seminarians Robert equips at BBSI are training for their calling to serve with excellence. The missionary kids Kim works with at Faith Academy need an education and to be challenged with the truth of the gospel, even while their parents serve in ministries all over the Philippines.

Outfitting & Passage Fund Update

Our Outfitting & Passage fundraising now stands at $10,888 of the $15,000 needed through the donations of 17 supporters.  Can you help us finish our quest to raise the remaining $4,112 in the next 2 months?

These funds have covered and will cover ministry expenses, flights, upcoming visa renewal costs, outfitting our new home and a used car for ministry.  To help us raise the remaining amounts for our O&P funds, you can click on the button to go to our secure online personal account page at ABWE. Be sure to indicate it is for the Clark's O&P fund.

Click on the Equip logo and you will be directed to our website to know more about the vital ministries we are involved with in Manila and beyond.  It's been said that the Philippine Islands are the "gateway to Asia". Well, in regards to the gospel being taken to Asia that could very well be true as many young Filipino men and women are preparing for ministry even as missionaries in other Asian countries.  They need our prayers!  We need to help prepare them.
