E-Mail Marketing – Holiday Style

Even though Black Friday sales were not quite what brick-and-mortar stores had hoped they would be, online companies’ sales increased over last year’s sales. With that being said, we hope that you are adequately prepared to reach out to your customer base with events, sales, or even a simple thank you for their business. The holiday season is typically the season of giving and thanks.

How should you reach out to your customers? Is this the first holiday season for your business? No worries, we’ve got you covered.

If you are wanting to increase your readership – here are a few tips

Create value-based, great content. If you are striving to increase your readership, make sure you are providing information to your customers that they want to read. This seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes, as business owners, we get caught up in the lingo and before we know it, we are sending the same lingo out in newsletters. For example, a possibility could be the creation of a “Best of 2012” list.

Re-evaluate the times and dates your e-mails have been opened. Do you need to change your game plan and scheduling from what you’ve found? You may have to and it might not be your most favorite thing to do during the holidays, but keep this tip in mind… If you are dreading changing your e-mail schedule due to your jam-packed schedule, think about how your customers might feel if you are sending them e-mails at the wrong time.

Utilize one of our cheery, in the holiday spirit templates to send out your newsletter to separate them from what you’ve been sending out. We’ve posted one of them at the bottom of this post.

If you have a sale or a specific call to action and you’ve been typically putting them below the fold, try to put your call to action above the fold and see what happens.
While sometimes its a fine line between marketing your business and being personal with your customers, its a relief to see the personal side once in a while. If it’s your first year in business, send an e-mail saying thank you to your customers, and hey, even if it’s not your first year, it is still a great idea to send that e-mail. Let’s face the facts, without our customers, we are only businesses with dreams and a logo.
